CLAY BUBBLES -

Cornish Handmade Studio Pottery

Paula Gray specialises in hand thrown porcelain domestic ware with crystalline glazes. The beauty of the fine porcelain truely comes alive when thrown very thin as the body is very translucent light can be clearly seen through the cup, saucer, mug, jug, teapot, coffee pot etc.  Making the everyday mundane into an enjoyable experience.  Making the functional beautiful, why not? Functional by design..beautiful by nature.

Paula started making pots in 2001 and has never looked back. Throwing is an addictive occupation and glazing is a fascinating and absorbing process.  Paula has dedicated her time to throwing with porcelain. This is a highly challenging type of clay which gives spectacular results when thrown with love and care for its delicate nature. Its beauty is its whiteness and translucency creating sleek lines and smooth curves which is why paula often alters her thrown work on the wheel to accentuate these properties.
Paula uses AB porcelain for its high standard of whiteness and translucency and makes her own glazes from the raw ingredients. Which means many hours of grinding before glaze mixing can even start.
Crystalline glazed work represents many many hours of  work and the success rate (due to the making process) is not 100%. Much trial and error and experimentation go into one successful glaze. All work is then fired for many hours in a complicated firing schedule that encourages the crystal growth.

Paula also makes other vessels, gob stopper sized spherical hollow beads. These are sold already made up as jewelery through jewelry shop/galleries. Alternatively loose beads can be ordered and purchased from this site and occasional craft fairs.
